About Us
Ms. Anne has worked with families for over 20 years, teaching, tutoring and advising parents and students on academic issues, school choice, and private school admission.
Boston Tutoring Center (BTC) was founded in 2002, when Ms. Anne started working with her 11 year old son to prepare for the ISEE (Independent Schools Entrance Exam) for the Boston exam schools and independent school admission. Ms. Anne started by offering ISEE prep classes in her home. She developed the verbal curriculum, and her husband, Mr. Bob, developed the math curriculum.
The business grew, and families began to request academic tutoring for math, writing, science, and foreign languages, as well as college admissions test prep (SAT and ACT). Ms. Anne moved the business out of her home in 2006, and she hired a staff to assist her in meeting the academic needs of her students. Some of BTC’s original tutors are still with us!
Today BTC works with students on test prep via Zoom across the United States and on 3 continents (Asia, Europe and South America).
Boston Tutoring Center was founded to address a few basic needs:
All children can benefit from quality one-on-one instruction - classes today are large in most schools (25 to 30 plus students), many schools “teach to the middle”, and students that are ahead or behind the curve are left out.
Finding and retaining a high quality tutor is hard work for parents - most tutors work part time, they have irregular schedules, and they may only tutor for a few months at a time to make extra money. When your tutor moves away, goes back to school, or finds a full time job, you have to start the process all over again. Our job is to carefully interview, screen, train and retain high quality, dedicated and caring individuals to instruct your child. Our tutors must pass a rigorous interview and screening, as well as a CORI criminal background check. All of our tutors are college graduates, many with advanced degrees and teaching certifications. We have high standards for our tutors, which they must consistently meet or exceed in order to remain with us. Today more than ever, it is crucial to know who you are trusting with your children.
Often parents pay for tutoring and do not see an improvement, and they do not know why. BTC provides regular, written progress reports so that parents know what happens during the tutoring sessions and how their child is doing. Tutoring is a partnership between parents, students and the tutor. We also invite you to join us for the last 5 minutes of each tutoring session to discuss progress, assignments, and any concerns about the tutoring with your child and the tutor.

From the parent of an ISEE student:
My daughter used BTC for ISEE prep during this past application cycle. Anne and her team were always very accommodating and provided excellent communication both to my 10 year old daughter, as well as us (the parents). Standardized testing isn’t easy for most kids at any age, especially elementary school. But Anne’s tutors did a fantastic job of tailoring the 1:1 sessions to my daughter’s abilities, and, to the level required for the test. We were proud when my daughter received favorable admissions decisions from the two all-girls schools that she applied to. I’d definitely encourage you to contact Anne and schedule time to come in and see for yourself what BTC has to offer.
